Meenakshi Amman Temple : Located on the banks of the Vaigai River, this 7th-century temple is visited by almost 20,000 people each day to worship Goddess Parvati. The stunning intricately carved façade of the temple, its high towers, and vimanas, all make it one of the most beautiful of Indian temples.
Vaigai Dam : Built over the Vaigai River, this dam is the perfect place to spend time savouring views of calm waters surrounded by a cool misty breeze. Climb around 100 steps to the top of the dam and you are treated to panoramic views of the surrounding lush hills and farms.
Samanar Hills : This almost 2000-year-old hill complex is one of the few surviving places where Jain monks lived and practiced their faith. There is a hilltop cave inscribed with Jain sayings and sculptures. It is a popular trekking location loved for the challenging hike that takes one to the top.
Iskcon : Dedicated to Radha and Krishna, the temple is also known as Radha Mathurapati, one of the most popular places. The beige and white palace-like complex of the temple has stunningly carved pillars, walls, and sanctums keeping in line with the ISKCON heritage and beauty.
St. Mary’s Cathedral : Built in 1841, this beautiful church is loved for its architecture that has Roman and European influences as is seen in its stained glass windows, colourful façade, and tall 42-metre high bell towers.
Goripalayam Dargah : This ancient dargah, one of the most intriguing places to visit in Madurai, dates back to the 13th-century and is dedicated to two famous saints Khwaja Alauddin Badusha and Khwaja Shamsuddin Badusha who came from Oman to spread the knowledge of Islam.
